The EU Anti-Corruption Initiative has been working with education in Ukraine for several years. Together with partners, we have supported the development of a strategy for Integrity in Education and teaching materials, backed Integrity Hubs in schools, organized anti-corruption projects for students, and monitored the implementation of the state subvention for school canteen modernization.
Over the years, we have become convinced that teachers are very important in shaping the culture and values of the generations. They are the agents of change whose influence extends far beyond the classroom.
“We want to recognise teachers who do more than teach their subjects, but who also lead by example, embodying responsibility, fairness, and integrity in their schools every day”. This is what the Head of the EUACI, Allan Pagh Kristensen, spoke about at the Education Dialogues by Osvitoria in Vinnytsia, gathering more than 100 teachers. He mentioned that the EUACI is sponsoring a special integrity nomination as part of the Global Teacher Prize Ukraine with the aim of creating a dialogue between teachers and pupils about what integrity means and why it is important.
During the Education Dialogues in Chernivtsi and Vinnytsia, Ukraine’s first Education Ombudsman (2019–2024), Serhiy Horbachov, shared with educators the materials and methods that can meaningfully strengthen integrity in everyday teaching. Finalists of the Global Teacher Prize Ukraine held thematic workshops and shared their practices throughout the Dialogues.
This year, a special award, Teacher of Integrity, will be presented as part of the Global Teacher Prize Ukraine.
A Teacher of Integrity is someone who:
- acts fairly, ethically, honestly, and responsibly, even when no one is watching
- integrates integrity principles into their teaching
- contributes to a culture of integrity across their school
