Competition for the positions of 39 judges to the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) is ongoing now in Ukraine. The EUACI together with other international partners provides technical and advisory support on this topic.
The candidates to the HACC will be selected by the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine (HQCJ) with the assistance of Public Council of International Experts, which will be a subsidiary body for the Commission. The Public Council will consist of highly credible professionals with an extensive experience in anti-corruption field from the side of either prosecution or adjudication. Fifteen eligible international organizations which cooperate with Ukraine on prevention and fight against corruption will nominate the international experts to the Public Council. The candidates will be selected on a competitive basis and will fully dedicate their work to the process of selecting candidates for the positions of judges to the High Anti-Corruption Court.
“High Anti-Corruption Court completes the chain of organizations, which are tasked in Ukraine to fight top corruption,” said Eka Tkeshelashvili, head of the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative. “It is extremely important to have completion of the whole chain of the institutions to ensure that a top corruption can be effectively investigated, prosecuted and adjudicated in the judiciary.”
The selection of new judges to the High Anti-Corruption Court is an exceptionally important process which shall ensure that independent, highly professional, dedicated professionals will come in a newly established anticorruption institution.
Judges with 5 years’ experience, lawyers and scientists with a degree in law and 7 years’ experience as well as candidates with 7 years total work experience in the above-mentioned areas can become judges of the newly formed High Anti-Corruption Court. Applicants for the positions of judges must submit the applications by September 14.
