On 26 April, the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative (EUACI) held a Steering Committee Meeting in Kyiv, marking the transition from Phase II to Phase III of the Program.
The meeting, held in a hybrid format, was co-chaired by Ukraine’s Minister of Justice, Denis Malyuska, and the Ambassador of Denmark, Ole Egberg Mikkelsen, and gathered key stakeholders and partners.
Allan Pagh Kristensen, the Head of the EUACI, provided an overview of the program’s achievements since the previous Steering Committee Meeting and presented the main areas of cooperation for the next phase of the Program.
«In the next phase, the focus of the EUACI will be on three things. First is the integration with the EU in the field of fighting and preventing corruption. The second aspect is recovery, where we contribute to creating a legal and technical framework for the reconstruction process based on transparency, integrity, and accountability. The third area is what we might call the resilience of anti-corruption structures. It’s important for us to ensure that they can continue their work, even in these challenging circumstances, and they can become more resilient in the future’, the EUACI Head noted.
The progress of the anti-corruption reform agenda in Ukraine was presented by Viktor Pavlushchyk, the Head of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP). He shared the key achievements of the anti-corruption institutions in the reporting period, including the restoration of e-declarations and reporting by political parties, as well as progress in implementing the State Anti-Corruption Program. The NACP Head also noted positive changes in the anti-corruption infrastructure, including the adoption by the Parliament of a law on the independence of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and on the increase of the number of NABU staff.
Representatives of Ukraine’s anti-corruption institutions, the Ministry for Restoration, CSO partners, and Integrity Cities mayors and representatives discussed challenges and opportunities in the fight against corruption. They shared the results of the cooperation with the EUACI and outlined the next steps to strengthen the anti-corruption work in partnership with the EUACI.
