Mykolaiv’s best practices of integrity presented at the International Mayors Summit

On 11 April, the annual 5th International Mayors Summit took place in Moldova. It brought together city mayors from all over the world, business communities, international organizations representatives and civil society. The main goal was to create a platform for the exchange of experience, solutions, innovations, best practices and success stories of cities in various fields.

Mykolaiv City Mayor, Oleksandr Sienkevych, shared the city`s successful experience of implementing integrity practices with the support of the EUACI. Among the main ones are tracking losses and damages, monitoring humanitarian aid, corporate standards in communal enterprises, transparent procurement processes, strengthening internal audit and assessing corruption risks.

`We are building a system of integrity. After all, the most difficult thing in the work of officials is temptation. That is the reason why I do not trust people, but a system that will be based on specific rules,` said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

He emphasized integrity and its key role in establishing successful partnerships and reconstructing the country. The Mayor also announced the launch of an international aid monitoring website in mid-May.

The EUACI supports the City Council’s ambition to transform Mykolaiv into a model city for post-war reconstruction.
