The Ukrainian Government has approved the distribution of UAH 421 million in subventions for modernising school canteens across 15 oblasts.
What does this mean in practice?
Updated equipment in schools, improved conditions for preparing quality and safe meals for children, and more spaces that meet modern standards. The list includes educational institutions from Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Kherson, Khmelnytskyi, Cherkasy, and Chernihiv regions.
This decision reinforces changes already underway across the country: approximately 20% of school food facilities have been modernised to date.
The modernisation of school food facilities is part of a broader school nutrition reform encompassing updated nutritional standards, food preparation technologies, and canteen equipment. The reform aims to build healthy habits among children and Ukrainian families.
EUACI has been working alongside the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the School Nutrition Reform Team since 2024 to minimise corruption risks in the use of state subventions. This work includes: training communities on procurement, reviewing documentation, monitoring tenders, and overseeing the quality of works.
