EUACI signed memorandum of understanding with first Integrity City – Chernivtsi

11 October, 2017 – EU Anticorruption Initiative (EUACI) – the largest anticorruption program of the EU in Ukraine signed a memorandum of understanding with Chernivtsi. Thus, this Ukrainian city became the first so called ‘Integrity City’ – a region, where EUACI jointly with the local authorities will implement anticorruption initiatives. The signing ceremony took place in Chernivtsi city hall with city mayor – Mr. Oleksiy Kaspruk and EUACI head Mrs. Eka Tkeshelashvili as signatories.

We are happy to have signed the MoU with the first integrity city – Chernivtsi. The concept of ’Integrity Citiy’ means that the local authorities have the willingness and the desire to be transparent in their interactions with the people and our mission here is to help them achieve this goal. We are ready to bring instruments for the effective corruption fight not only on the central level, but on the local as well’ – said Eka Tkeshelashvili during the signing.

Now that the MoU has been signed the next step will be bringing a team of experts to Chernivtsi, who will conduct corruption risks analysis and advice the city on drafting the municipal integrity plan. Following the signing ceremony Chernivtsi city mayor Oleksiy Kaspruk said: ‘We will use all the efforts to make our activity more transparent, more open for our people’.

Selecting and assisting Integrity Cities is one of EUACI’s areas of activity aimed at bringing best anticorruption practices into the regions of Ukraine. Overall EUACI will select and assist 6 Integrity Cities across the country.
