EUACI experts have joined discussion on the criteria of integrity and professionalism of candidates for positions of judges

On 16 January, the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine (HQCJU) hosted a seminar devoted to the criteria of integrity and professional skills in the selection of candidates for positions of judges. International and Ukrainian experts invited by the European Union Anti-Corruption Initiative (EUACI) attended this event.

During two sessions, the participants familiarized with international standards for the selection of judges and exchanged their views on the application of such practices during the evaluation of the candidates for the High Anti-Corruption Court.

Eka Tkeshelashvili, the Head of the EUACI, together with the Head of HQCJU, Head of the EU Project ‘Pravo Justice’ and the Ukrainian-Canadian Project ‘Support to Judicial Reform’ delivered a welcome speech in the beginning of the seminar. The international consultant of the EUACI, Dr. Tilman Hoppe, presented main aspects of the criteria of integrity and professional qualification for evaluation of candidates for judicial positions.

During the event the EUACI was also represented by Senior Anti-Corruption Adviser Clemens Mueller and Anti-Corruption Expert Halyna Kokhan.

The event was held as part of implementation of the recommendations provided by the Report ‘Selection and Evaluation of Judges in Ukraine’, developed by the EU Project ‘Pravo Justice’.
