On 15-16 July, the EUACI conducted a two-day training in Kyiv on corruption prevention and integrity for 36 local officials of Integrity Cities, partner cities and municipal enterprises.
The training aimed at promoting systemic anti-corruption work, helping local authorities in building an effective corruption prevention system. Allan Pagh Kristensen, Head of the EUACI, welcomed the participants, highlighting the results already achieved across Integrity Cities. He mentioned that the training took place based on a request from the cities and expressed appreciation of local authorities giving priority to anti-corruption work in times of war and many other priorities at local level.
The training covered national and international standards on corruption prevention, the building blocks of an anti-corruption system for organisations, and the roles of authorised persons, management, and council members in preventing corruption. Participants worked on identifying and assessing corruption risks across key areas of community life, including education, healthcare, and municipal enterprises.
A significant part of the programme was dedicated to whistleblowing systems in local authorities and municipal enterprises: the roles, policies, and channels involved, the legal status of whistleblowers, and the guarantees in place to protect them, along with the practical handling of corruption reports.
The EUACI continues to support cities in building an integrity environment, because change in communities begins not only with procedures, but with the people who make decisions every day.
