Nikopol is an industrial city located on the right bank of the Dnipro River. Since February 2024, it has been under constant missile, drone, and artillery attacks. As of August 2024, ongoing Russian attacks have resulted in 54 deaths, 418 injuries among residents, and 6,200 damaged or destroyed structures.
Despite this extremely difficult security situation, the city’s priority remains preventing corruption and promoting transparency and integrity.
Five years of cooperation between the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative and Nikopol have yielded significant results. Among the successful joint projects are:
- The implementation of six modules of the geo-information system.
- The integrity assessment of the municipal enterprise “Nikopolvodokanal.”
- The completion of 95% of the Integrity Plan in 2023.
Additionally, Nikopol has become the first and, so far, the only city in the Dnipropetrovsk region with a digital platform for online interaction between citizens and local authorities.
The focus of cooperation for the coming year includes:
- Strengthening the capacity to assess corruption risks and fulfill the tasks outlined in the Municipal Integrity Plan;
- Ensuring the sustainable operation of the implemented IT tools;
- Improving the public procurement mechanism.
