The Integrity City Chervonohrad develops innovative integrity practices on its own

News

The Integrity City Chervonohrad not only implements the programme in close cooperation with the EUACI, but also develops innovative integrity practices on its own. At the initiative of Mayor Andriy Zalivskyi, an open competition was announced for the position of Deputy Mayor.

Such a procedure is optional under the current legislation, and city councils usually approve deputy mayors on the basis of proposals from community heads. Following an open competition, an independent commission, including experts from the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative, identified the deputy mayor, and today this appointment was made by the deputies.

“Thanks to the support of the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative, an open competition for the position of deputy mayor was held. Based on our positive experience, we will now conduct interviews in this format. I am confident that the new deputy mayor, who will be responsible for digitalization and electronic document management, will make every effort to ensure that all management processes in the council are efficient, transparent, and accessible,” said the Mayor.

This practice not only increases the trust of residents in the city authorities but also minimizes corruption risks and increases the transparency of the city government.

“Even during martial law, communities continue to work on building integrity, openness, and transparency. Chervonohrad implements the best existing procedures and mechanisms and offers new approaches. Holding an open competition for the deputy mayor is a good practice that should be adopted by other communities in Ukraine!” – emphasized Taras Khavunka, the EUACI Senior Good Governance Consultant.

We are convinced that this unique initiative will become a good example for other cities to follow.
