On June 16, in the Corruption Park, the director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine met with young Ukrainians. He talked about the creation of NABU, his vision for the development of anti-corruption activities in Ukraine, and answered some questions.

During their meeting with Artem Sytnyk, young Ukrainians asked some uncomfortable questions and spoke about corruption cases from their lives. They suggested to unite and demand that amendments be made to the law of the Anticorruption Court. The NABU director’s in turn, expressed the opinion that one cannot fight corruption only just with arrests. According to Mr. Sytnyk, people’s mindset needs to change, everyone should fight corruption by, first, starting with themselves.

“There is no such experience of combating corruption, as the one in Ukraine. Poland’s Anti-Corruption Bureau was created under similar conditions as the ones currently existing in Ukraine, but Poland soon got out of shock, Ukrainians are experiencing similar shock, but our shock is different because our people died on the Maidan while speaking out against corruption, “Artem Sytnyk argued.

Sytnyk also spoke about the detectives of NABU, many of whom are young people, and revealed the average age of a NABU detective – 27. He explained that, the reason behind this average young age of his specialists is the result, in part, of the fact that older candidates for the same position could not explain the sources of their current wealth.

According to the head of the NABU, Ukraine has already embarked on the path of change and it is impossible to get off of it. For his part, the head of the NABU promised to do everything in his power to assist the fight against corruption.
