Ukraine’s Anti-Corruption Reform – Side Event at the Ukraine Recovery Conference

In the margins of the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC) in Rome, the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative (EUACI), together with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, the OECD, and the Danish EU Presidency, hosted a side event focused on Ukraine’s anti-corruption reforms – progress and challenges.

While anti-corruption was not explicitly a point on the formal URC agenda, the side event gave an opportunity to discuss aspects of anti-corruption reforms in Ukraine and a platform for civil society representatives to raise some of the critical questions.

The event brought together over 60 participants from Ukraine’s government and civil society, as well as from the EU and other international organisations, who participated in an open exchange on the country’s reform path and challenges.

The discussion highlighted the many achievements since the Revolution of Dignity. Most significantly, the establishment of the independent and well–functioning anti-corruption institutions. The impact of Ukraine’s EU integration and accession in creating further momentum and direction as to anti-corruption reforms was among the points mentioned. Recent developments were also discussed, and concerns were raised.

The discussion unfolded in two panels:

  • Ukraine’s Achievements and Next Steps in Fighting Corruption – with insights from key stakeholders.
  • Raising the Bar: Ukraine’s Alignment with International Standards and the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention – focusing on integration into global anti-corruption frameworks.
