The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) have presented the report on their results of the first half of 2024.
During the six months of 2024, NABU detectives and SAPO prosecutors began 323 new criminal investigations. 64 cases were referred to the court against 131 persons. 166 new suspects were registered. Based on the materials of NABU and SAPO, 27 guilty verdicts were issued by the High Anti-Corruption Court and 36 corrupt officials were prosecuted. The number of verdicts by the High Anti-Corruption Court has now reached 200 since its establishment in 2019.
The economic impact of NABU’s and SAPO’s activities has a value of more than UAH 3.7 billion – or more than 80 million EUR. Among them:
▪️ UAH 3.3 billion was saved on the purchase of drones for the army;
▪️ UAH 83.1 million was directed for army needs;
▪️ UAH 209.3 million was compensated to the state;
▪️ UAH 102.3 million was confiscated in state revenue.
“The year 2024 will go down in NABU’s history as a year of strengthening and institutional consolidation. NABU is becoming increasingly effective. This is not only about the rise in the number of cases, charges, and searches. The prioritization of criminal proceedings, which we began last year, and the focus on corruption crimes being committed here and now are already yielding tangible results. The new approaches have made it possible to expose and bring to court those who were previously considered untouchable. These are primarily current ministers, MPs, and heads of state enterprises. Curbing corruption here and now saves billions of funds for all Ukrainians,” — Semen Kryvonos, the Director of NABU, commented on the results of the report.
