Over the last two days, Ukraine’s recovery, defence, reforms, and development became the main themes of numerous high-level talks at the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2024 (хештег#URC2024) in Berlin.
Yesterday at the URC, the head of the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative (EUACI), Allan Pagh Kristensen announced the launch of the Visions of the Future Project – a project initiated by the EUACI in collaboration with the OECD – OCDE
What is it about?
The Visions of the Future Project will serve as a platform for dialogue among stakeholders from civil society, media, the economy, public governance and the academia regarding preventing and fighting corruption in Ukraine.
Why?
We observe the need to gather people from various areas to discuss and formulate a broader vision for the anti-corruption work. The success of the anti-corruption institutions, together with the very low tolerance of corrupt behavior since Russia’s invasion, presents new opportunities to broaden the anti-corruption agenda.
How?
A small working group has been established to lead in facilitating an inclusive debate based on a whole of society approach. The working group will meet throughout 2024-25 to envision and challenge the paths towards an integrity-based social contract in Ukraine.
What’s next?
The Visions of the Future Project will reflect societal stakeholders’ perceptions of the successes and shortcomings of the previous anti-corruption efforts, assess the broad effects of earlier anti-corruption reforms, and present the next milestones that Ukraine will need to achieve.
The project will formulate a vision paper to inspire and guide decision-makers and other stakeholders.
