Supporting Independent Investigative Journalism in Ukraine

Investigative journalists play one of the leading roles in the fight against corruption in Ukraine. They not only uncover misconduct but also create public demand for transparency and accountability. At the beginning of this year, many independent Ukrainian media found themselves in a very vulnerable financial situation.

The EUACI allocated its funds to provide emergency support to investigative media, so they can continue their important work. We selected four media outlets—both regional and national—to help them sustain their efforts in exposing corruption and holding power to account. We will support Slidstvo.info, Ukrainska Pravda, NGL.media, and Nikcenter for a limited time, to help them adjust their funding needs and work.

We see the risks the investigative media face and remain committed to supporting their work. We will continue looking for additional ways to help investigative media continue their work in investigating corruption cases.

The EU will also provide additional €10 million for independent media and NGOs, to ensure their sustainability and to allow this important pillar of democracy to thrive. Read more: https://cutt.ly/BraegSGd

We also continue our long-term partnership with Bihus.info, and the Media Development Foundation is implementing the School for Regional Investigative Journalists with the support of the EUACI.
