EUACI presented the results of monitoring subventions for the modernisation of school canteens to foreign diplomats

On 12 December 2025, representatives of more than 30 foreign diplomatic missions in Ukraine visited the kitchen-factory “Hotuyimo” in Bucha, Kyiv region, with a partnership visit.

The participants had the opportunity to learn how key elements of the school nutrition reform are being implemented in practice and how infrastructure changes improve nutrition in schools.

In particular, the event served as a platform for presenting the results of the joint work of the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative (EUACI), the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and the School Nutrition Reform Team on the implementation of subventions for the modernisation of school canteens in 2024-2025.

In his speech, Allan Pagh Kristensen, the head of the EUACI, stressed the importance of transparent use of public funds for the modernisation of school canteens.

“This is the first project in Ukraine that ensures real-time monitoring of school canteen modernisation. The comprehensive approach, including documentation, procurement and construction oversight, allowed us to effectively close many gaps for corruption. This methodology has shown its effectiveness and is ready for replication in construction processes across the country”, Allan Pagh Kristensen mentioned.

In 2024-2025, 355 projects were monitored. As a result, over 320 million UAH savings were identified and redirected to modernise 36 school canteens.
