Congrats to Ukraine! And to Europe!

News

Yesterday, a historic decision by the EU has paved the way for Ukraine to become member of the European Union. At these difficult times for Ukraine, such decision creates hope for a better future, a stronger democray and a more prosperous Ukraine. Ukraine has a great potential. Now, the EU provided Ukraine with a clear direction. And the Ukrainian people are more united in this vision of the future than never before.

One thing is to become a candidate country, another thing to prepare for EU membership. A long lasting challenging process is in front of us. Ukraine will need to further enhance the fight against corruption, strengthen the anti-corruption infrastructure, reform the judiciary and overall create the foundations for a modern and wellfunctioning society based on European values. Ukraine is not starting from scratch. Good progress has been achieved since Maidan 2014.

With the EU perspective we expect a new momentum in the anti-corruption work and new opportunities when the situation allows. The EUACI will be there to assist. Whether its about ensuring respect for integrity and accountability in the management of reconstruction aid; approximation of legislation and reforms; asset recovery; or enhancing the resilience of our anti-corruption partners.

EUACI is back in Kyiv and ready to help Ukraine deliver on the high expectations of the EU Member States.
