On 29 November, Poltava hosted the Business Integrity Day. The event brought together entrepreneurs, experts, and representatives of the city authorities for an open discussion on transparent rules for business.
The event was organised by the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative (EUACI) as part of its work on regulatory rules in the partner city.
Participants discussed the barriers they face on a daily basis and their expectations for regulatory policies in the city to be understandable, consistent and transparent.
Valentin Krasnopiorov, founder of the educational initiative “Ostanniy Capitalist (Last Capitalist)”, in his keynote speech talked about the potential of Poltava’s business community, outlined the main challenges for entrepreneurs, and emphasised that transparent and understandable rules are key to the development of the local economy.
Participants discussed the key regulations that most affect the daily work of businesses, analysed local rules and developed proposals for their updating, in particular simplifying procedures and increasing the transparency and predictability of decisions.
Special attention was devoted to the following areas:
- local taxes;
- rental and privatisation of municipal property;
- temporary facilities (small architectural forms);
- transport regulation;
- improvements, signage and outdoor advertising.
The results will form the basis for developing amendments to regulatory acts in the Poltava City Council.
