The large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine has already brought tremendous human suffering, resulting in numerous losses of lives, an increasing number of casualties, and large-scale destruction of property, including bombings of residential areas and acts of freebooting. In such circumstances, military protective equipment becomes essential for surviving and is always in short supply in hot spots. Therefore, the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative (EUACI) has received numerous urgent requests from our beneficiaries. The most prioritised one was the request to supply protective gear to save lives under continuous shelling.

Therefore, EUACI has procured and recently delivered 1002 armour vests and 1400 ballistic helmets to Ukraine, worth more than € 1 million. The provided protective gear will be essential to ensure the safety of anti-corruption institutions’ staff and other defenders at the front.

The main aim is to provide for the survival of anti-corruption institutions and their staff, enhance the resilience of anti-corruption agencies and prevent the loss of lives of the country's defenders.

Allan Pagh Kristensen, the EUACI Head: “From being a big anti-corruption program, we made the transition to become an emergency aid program just two days after the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war. In total, during more than 4 months of full-scale war, the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative delivered various types of humanitarian aid (clothing, shelter equipment, large-scale generators for strategic infrastructure, etc.) and handed over 1,300 bullet-proof vests, 1,400 ballistic helmets, 400 walkie-talkies, 2000 first-aid kits, 3 thermographic cameras and other protective equipment with a total value of about 4 million euros”.

EUACI will continue to ensure the security and development of Ukrainian anti-corruption institutions and civil society to promote and ensure integrity, transparency, and accountability in wartime.
